Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
