Assassin's Creed Reveals Unexpected AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a surprising partnership that challenges usual predictions, the game developer has announced an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering no-cost extra story content for Shadows players.
Peculiar Mission Revealed
According to the formal announcement, "An unusual encounter draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh adventure, where hints of prohibited ceremonies and terrifying changes echo through the darkness." The storyline introduces a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who charges the pair with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her friend from a secret cult.
The adventure focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome foe" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Familiar Places and Changes
The preview features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer finishes with a striking scene showing a character, presumably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Items and Extra Content
Players who finish the quest will receive an special katana in addition to multiple objects hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Exclusive weapons
- Survey Corps vehicle
Third Free Story Addition
This update also adds the game's third no-cost story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive skills: Naoe introduces a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Anime Partnerships
This marks not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime properties. The series earlier featured a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that clearly referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
